“That’s what they tell you? Or that’s what you tell yourself?” he teased, smiling into their kiss. Sighing quietly as Peri combed her fingers through his hair, his arms slid around her waist, hugging her tightly. He didn’t want her to leave.. Alex couldn’t help but meet his girlfriend’s gaze as she lifted his head, and he shrugged at the question. “Never better be the answer. If not, you’re staying home for sure.” She had handled the job for years before they ever met, and had been perfectly fine. He knew that, but now it was different; she was his girl, and he worried about her. “Just come home as soon as you can, okay?” His tone was almost pleading, and he kissed her briefly once more.

Peri sighed softly. Alex’s embrace was doing nothing to guide her toward her goal of leaving; it was just making her want to ignore her responsibilities and stay here with him. “Of course that’s the answer. I’m a big girl, I can take care of myself.” And if she couldn’t, whichever sycophant with a gun he had trained on her interactions for that particular night could. She grinned at his kiss, placing one of her own on his nose. “I will, alright? Promise.” She held up her pinkie finger between them, wiggling it slightly.
